CB Slang / Technical Terms & Abbreviations

Almost all of these came from " trucker's ". As time goes bye some of these will be forgotten and new ones will be added. Here is what I can remember and compiled from numerous sources :


CB Slang---
A kind of language occurring chiefly in casual and playful speech, made up typically of short-lived coinages and figures of speech that are deliberately used in place of standard terms for added raciness, humor, irreverence, or other effect.

Machine---- ( Truck(rig). )

Mack City---- ( Allentowm,Pennsylvania-USA. )

Mad money---- ( Expense account. )

Magic mile---- ( End of a trip. )

Magnolia State---- ( Mississippi-USA. )

Mail---- ( Overheard conversation; conversation on a channel. )

Make a trip---- ( Switch channels. )

Make it a best seller--- ( Have a good trip. )

Make the trip---- ( A transmitted signal making it to another station: "Did I make the trip?". )

Male buffalo---- ( A male prostitute. )

Making the trip---- ( Good signal. )

Mama---- ( Wife or girl friend. )

Mama Bear--- ( Policewoman. )

Mama's lane---- ( Passing lane. )

Mama Smokey---- ( Female Police Officer. )

(The)Man---- ( Police. )

Maniac---- ( Mechanic. )

Man in blue---- ( Police. )

Man in slicker---- ( Fireman. )

Man in white---- ( Doctor or ambulance attendent. )

Man with a camera---- ( Police with radar; radar trap. )

Mare---- ( Woman. )

Marijuana Taxi---- ( Police car. )

Marker---- ( Post on side of road used to indicate location. )

Mashing the mike---- ( Keying button on microphone. )

Mash your motor---- ( Go fast, step on it. Same as gouge on it and hammer down. )

Masquerading smokey---- ( Disguised police car. )

Mate---- ( Good buddy or friend. )

May all your ups and downs between the sheets---- ( A closing. )

Mayday---- ( Emergency (10-33); distress call. )

May I have a Nixon ?---- ( I beg your pardon ? )

Mclean lane---- ( Center lane. )

McStop---- ( A McDonalds with truck parking and clean restrooms . )

Meanies---- ( The Spectrum Management Agency, Canberra (formerly DoTac). )

Meat wagon---- ( Ambulance. )

Mercy---- ( Supplants "on-air" profanity. "Mercy, I thought that driver was going to run over me". )

Mercy sakes---- ( Most common general exclamation, "my goodness" or "wow";
can be used in place of fourletter words.
)

Mercy snakes---- ( Variation of "mercy sakes". )

Merry merry---- ( Means merry Christmas (" have a wonderful merry merry") . )

Mess-em-up---- ( Accident. )

Mexican overdrive---- ( Neutral gear position used in going downhill. )

MIC---- ( Microphone. )

Mi Casa---- ( My house. )

Mickey Mitchell---- ( Local police. )

Mickey Mouse (metro)---- ( Local police. )

Mickey Mouse on a tricycle---- ( Police on a motorcycle. )

Midnight overdrive---- ( Same as "Mexican overdrive". )

Midnight shopper---- ( Thief. )

Mighty Slow---- ( M.S. Carriers driver. )

Mike---- ( Microphone. )

Mike dust---- ( Static. )

Mike Fright---- ( Soft-speaking, quiet person. )

Mikey mouse---- ( Temporary, non professional fix to a situation. )

Mik-e-nik---- ( Mechanic. )

Mile High---- ( Denver,Colorado-USA. )

Mile marker---- ( Same as marker. )

Milford lane---- ( Passing lane. )

Milk run---- ( Easy trip. )

Minding My Business---- ( Driving according to the rules of the road (i.e. Not speeding orusing the shoulder, etc.). )

Mine sweeper---- ( Front door of a convoy. )

Miniskirt---- ( Girl, woman. )

Ministate---- ( Rhode Island-USA. )

Minnie---- ( Small shipment(usually less then 100 pounds). )

Mission ---- ( A rush load."I'm on a mission today". )

Mixing bowl---- ( Highway clover leaf or interchange; converging roads. )

Mixmaster---- ( Same as "mixing bowl". )

Mobile---- ( CB radio in car, truck, boat, motorcycle, or bicycle. )

Mobile eyeball---- ( One truck checking another truck's rig while passing it. )

Mobile-forrest--- ( Logging truck. )

Mobile mattress---- ( Car with camper. )

Mobile parking lot---- ( Same as "portable parking lot"; i.e., auto transport truck. )

Mobile unit---- ( Car, other vehicle. )

Moccasins---- ( Linear amplifier. )

Modulate---- ( Talking. )

Modulate with you---- ( Talk with you. )

Modulating---- ( Talking; Talking on the CB. )

Modulator---- ( Some refer to it as a linear. It’s actually a device to boost the transmit audio. )

Mollies---- ( Uppers or sleep-retarding pills. )

Momma---- ( The wife. )

Moneybus---- ( Armored truck. )

Mon Ford Lane---- ( Passing lane. )

Monford Lane---- ( Passing lane. )

Monkey blood---- ( Gasoline. )

Monkey pickles---- ( Bananas; so named because bananas are dark green during shipment.
"I got me a load of monkey pickles out of Gulfport".
)

Monkey Town---- ( Montgomery,Alabama-USA; Montgomery Ward (department store). )

Monitoring---- ( Listening. )

Moonshine---- ( Liquor. )

Monitor---- ( To listen, i.e.- "I monitor channel 22. )

Monster lane---- ( Extreme left-hand lane . )

Mon-tan-n-n-na ---- ( Montana-USA- drivers must have thick skin when other drivers
give them the "sheep bleat".
)

Mothball---- ( CB get-together(Annual CB Convention). )

Mother trucker---- ( Used in place of common 12-letter word. )

Motion Lotion---- ( Gasoline. )

Motion potion---- ( Fuel; petrol. )

Motor boat---- ( Rapid fluttering signal. )

Motor City---- ( Detroit,Michigan-USA. )

Motorcycle Mama--- ( Woman riding on a motorcycle. )

Motoring on---- ( Traveling. )

Motor is totering---- ( Driving at desired speed. )

Motor machine---- ( Car or truck. )

Motormouth---- ( Nonstop talker. )

Motown---- ( Detroit,Michigan-USA. )

Mounties in the sky---- ( Police in helicopters. )

Mounty---- ( Short for County Mounty (sheriff, deputy sheriff, or county police officer). In Canada, it definately refers to a Mounty or Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer. )

Mouth Piece--- ( Lawyer. )

Movable parking lot---- ( Same as portable parking lot. )

Move---- ( Travel; in motion. )

Movie star---- ( M.S. Carriers Bought by SWIFT transportation. )

Moving forest---- ( Long truck. )

Moving on---- ( Means you have quit jabbin' and are now driving (see also stepping on, rolling on) . )

Mr. Clean--- ( Overtly cautious driver. )

Mr. Peanut---- ( Jimmy Carter. )

M20---- ( Meeting place. )

Muck Truck---- ( Cement truck. )

Mud---- ( Coffee. )

Mudball---- ( Donut. )

Mud Duck---- ( Someone with a very weak signal / very hard to copy. )

Muff---- ( Woman. )

Mule---- ( Forklift. )

Multi-stop body---- ( Truck used for short stops. )

Mumbo Jumbo---- ( CB Jargon for "I don’t copy". )

Munchies---- ( Food. )

Muppet Channels---- ( UK Band . )

Muscle buster---- ( Air-cushioned driver's seat. )

Music City or Town---- ( Nashville,Tennessee-USA. )

Muskrat---- ( Child. )

My Goodness Gracious---- ( Term for surprise, or excitement. )



Technical Terms & Abbreviations---
Means practical knowledge on electrical systems including installing, maintaining, operating, or repairing electrical equipment.




mA---- ( Milliampere (1/1,000 ampere) . )

Magnetic mount---- ( An antenna with a magnetic base that permits
quick installation and removal from a motor vehicle or other metal surface.
)

Main Lobe---- ( The direction of maximum radiated field strength from
an antenna, also called Major Lobe.
)

MARS---- ( Military Affiliate Radio Service. )

Matchbox ---- ( Antenna Tuner--Impedance-matching device that matches
the antenna system input impedance to the transmitter, receiver, or transceiver output impedance.
)

Maximum Usable---- ( MUF--(The highest frequency that allows a radio
wave to reach a desired destination).
)

Mayday---- ( Emergency (10-33); distress call. )

MC---- ( Megacycles. )

Megacycles---- ( Million cycles per second. This terminology
has been replaced by MegaHertz (MHz) .
)

Megahertz---- ( Million hertz. )

Memory Bank ---- ( A set of memory channels organized into a group. )

Memory Effect ---- ( Rechargeable batteries such as Ni-cad and Ni-MH types that
may be getting capacity as a result of repeated non-full charge/dis-charge cycles.
)

MF---- ( Medium Frequency--300-3,000 kHz. )

MIC---- ( Microphone. )

Mids---- ( EU (European) Band. )

Mike---- ( Microphone. )

Mobile---- ( CB radio in car, truck, boat, motorcycle, or bicycle. )

Mobile unit---- ( Car, other vehicle. )

Modulate---- ( Talking. )

Modulating---- ( Talking; Talking on the CB. )

Modulation---- ( Audio portion of your signal. )

Modulation---- ( The process of varying some characteristic (Amplitude,
Frequency or phase of an RF Carrier for the purpose on conveying information.
)

Modulation booster---- ( Microphone pre-amp/compressor either external or internal to the microphone or radio. External devices between the mike and rig are called Modulators. )

Modulator---- ( Some refer to it as a linear. It’s actually a device to boost the transmit audio. )

Monitoring---- ( Listening. )

Moonraker---- ( A 4 element cross polarized directional antenna
formerly made by Antenna Specialist Company. Now, a catch-all word for any directional
antenna roughly matching the same description.
)

M20---- ( Meeting place. )
